Hey, Reader,

As we reach the end of the year, I’m engaging in my usual reflection and planning.

I don’t know the right words to describe 2024, but surprisingly, it has been my most successful year. I also experienced my highest levels of burnout. So I’m looking to reconcile these two things.

But I’m hella proud of what I accomplished this year and the ways that I stretched myself personally and professionally, from getting a trainer to taking on and crushing a big project.

For the last five years, I have recorded my accomplishments in Trello as they happen (moving this over to Notion for 2025!).

Sometimes throughout the year, I read what I have done thus far as a reminder or boost. This has been a lifeline to me at times when the industry has become unbearable or I am doubting myself.

As artists, we spend a little too much time doubting ourselves, which holds us back from creating and sharing life-changing work. So whatever we can do to get over that doubt is a good thing.

Then at the end of the year, I read through each entry and really try to process and reflect on all that I have done, all the ways that I have grown. And for the past few years, I've been blowing my own mind.

For the last three years, I have also recorded experiences that have brought me joy - like seeing a favorite artist live or taking my mother to a premiere.

This helped to show the fullness of my year and encouraged me to do more joyful things.

I am really looking forward to reviewing all that I did in 2024, processing and celebrating it all.

BTW: If you’re looking to get back on creative track in 2025, grab your copy of the The Creative Comeback Workbook.

AN EXCERPT FROM THE CREATIVE COMEBACK WORKBOOK

I thought for this week’s newsletter, we take some time to talk our ish… via an excerpt from The Creative Comeback Workbook that prompts us to think about what has made us proud:

DAY 16: REMEMBERING

TODAY’S EXERCISE

Today we’re thinking about the work that has made us proud.

Reflect and respond to the following:

What have you written or created that you’re super proud of? Why are you proud?

What was the process like creating it?

Who did you share the work with?

FOR EXAMPLE
I am super proud of the two shorts that I’ve directed, tender and LOOK BACK AT IT. The process of creating both was so freeing. And collaborative. And creative. And warm. And challenging, but in the best ways. They have set the bar for how I want my creative practice and process to look. They reconfirmed that it is possible to have healthy and beautiful experiences as an artist.

GO FURTHER
If you have some past work, revisit it. And find all the ways to appreciate it. Trust, I cringe at some of my earlier work, but it is what got me here.
